  1. Agriculture is the solution that can make Nigeria better and it can be applied in my community by empowering the youth with land and money for cultivation and animal husbandry.

  2. I so much agree with you, Bukola. The government must show much interest in our cash crops, how to bring in research and technology development into agriculture, and make it second major source of foreign exchange after Crude oil. How to apply it to our communities is quite simple, agricultural loans, trainings, free lands for farming and good orientation on how to survive this economy recession and poverty by going into peasant and commercial farming, should be properly discharged to both literate and unlearned in our communities. Agencies in charge of all these have to be revived.

  5. All hail to all the contributors so far. I so much love this challenge as it gave us the youths a sense of participation in good governance. I quite agree with you on agriculture but in addition, there is need for a proper restructuring to have a well managed agricultural sector, one thing Nigeria is fun of is project implementation but when it comes to management and sustainability we seems to be lacking, so in order to gain a balanced and sustainable benefits in this sector we need a body to take up this task. This can be achieved in each community through proper management and collaborations with both public and private agricultural agency including farmers associations at all levels both at the national and local level to engage professionals in this field to contribute to the management affairs and as well provide expert advice and training to young people to become skilled in agroreneurship field. This will create a sense of belonging for everyone to participate especially the farmers and also promote youths participation in the agricultural sector.

  11. Improving the power sector will also alleviate poverty and unemployment. Small scale business will be encouraged, foreign investors who had their industries in Nigeria will find their way back to the country because Nigeria is the best marketplace for any investor in the African continent. Through uninterrupted power, the entrepreneurial youths can start up their businesses with a low capital as compared to now.

There should be biotechnology centres in all the states so as to encourage crop improvements and increase agricultural productions.

  14. Skill Acquisition is the key to reduce high level of poverty and unemployment rate in Nigeria. The contribution of Skill Acquisition and training on unemployment reduction through youth empowerment and social welfare service improvement will be much significant if encouraged at all the level in the state especially at local and community level. Acquisition of vocational skills lead to a significant reduction of poverty among young adults who participated on skills acquisition programmes.Because Nigeria is fast becoming a predominantly youthful society with high rate of unemployment, it requires training the youth in entrepreneurship skills in technical vocational education and training to tackle unemployment which has reached alarming proportions.

we have 36 states in Nigeria, each state should set aside let say 100 hectares of land or more and each state should specialize in the production of crops or farming activities that they have comparative cost or fit their lands. Youth or Corpers (NYSC) should be placed on these lands to cultivate and also provide mechanized farming with buildings for them to sleep. Meaning that all corpers should not be posted to any other sectors. Batch A will cultivate, Batch B will continue the work and C. later, each states will exchange their crops among themselves and stop exportation for while let for 10 years, food will be in surplus in Nigeria, Youth will be engaged and problem of mono-economy will be solved. And don't forget corpers are paid monthly. (Practical guide for youth unemployment and poverty in Nigeria). This can be applied to my community (Eruwon, Ijebu Ode). Thanks

  16. The enormous intervention of all levels of Nigeria government in Agricultural sector by channeling in huge percentage of annual budget into the sector; therefore making it second largest source of foreign exchange exchange, and providing enough agricultural tools to every Nigeria citizen to use in alleviating poverty.

I strongly believe that the best way to help improve Nigeria is by empowering the youth using Etrpreneurship.
I stand on this because if a youth learns at least a skill, it will keep such youth busy and takes his/her mind away from other bad acts and also it will erase any intention of doing anything bad. After the duration of such skills, Government should empower the youth by providing effective machineries and as well as capitals so that such youth won't run away from the skill. Once they see support they would stay and make it their priority. This will in one way or the other reduce unemployment rate. In view of this I would advice the Government to look into empowering youths through entrepreneurship.

    1. Another question will be

How many youths are ready to really learn?.
What are they going to learn that will make them compete globally and locally?

    2. Hmmm.@anonymous. I believe we need to focus on the technology know how mostly than the what to learn. We seem to know a lot but only in abstract. It's high time we started converting our theoretical knowledge to something practical and workable.

  22. unemployment and poverty can be alleviate in Nigeria from two perspectives;
    1) Industrialization: there is no developed nations that developed without industrialization, Nigeria as a country needs cultivate the habit to invest and make policies that can attract both indigenous and foreign investors to invest in strategic area of the country in which unemployment and poverty will reduce drastically simple because individual people in the society will be engage and have source of income to earn a living, also the more we have industries in the country there be a competitive measures among the industries for manpower.

    2) Agriculture: before the discovering of oil, agriculture have been our main source of revenue. Individual household should engage themselves either in subsistence, commercial and mechanized farming, when this is put in place there will enough food to consumption and also to export which will be a source of income for the household instead of depending majorly on government for employment, this initiative will be alternative source of employment for individual in the society.

  23. Farm yard practice is a yearly routine carried out by 400l students in the institution of Agriculture in Ogun State. I suggest that Government should make use of these students by providing farm machineries & more land for cultivation. Also remuneration should be given at the end of the practice to motivate the students asides from d score they will get since it is part of school curriculum. Continuation of this over time will reduce starvation and job scarcity thereby decreasing crime rates by the youth.

  25. I believe the introduction of vocational and entrepreneurial skills training should be inculcated right from the inception of learning(primary education) to tertiary institutions. On this note it shouldn't be an optional course but rather a compulsory one as English, Mathematics, GNS were made compulsory. The creativity of an entrepreneurial literate knows no bound which is why it should be nurtured from the start. The high population of China is an advantage for them as their youths are engaged in one entrepreneurial skill or the other which increases the nation's GDP growth. It's high time we do the same. You don't need a PhD to be creative.

  26. Theme: Alleviating Poverty & Unemployment in the Nigeria Economy.
    #MakingJuneBetter4Nigerians

Poverty and unemployment can be alleviated through the following approach:

    1. Agricultural: On 27/06/2017 I some documentary on AIT news about oil, it was clearly stated that in no distance time the world will be running out of oil. Where does that leave us as a nation? Which other sector can we fall back to? Well before we discovered oil we where all farmers. What happened to those days when our fathers brags about their farm lands among friends? What happened to those days when parent wants farmers to marry their daughters? So we NEED to shift our interest/ attention to the agricultural sector and let all states Farm and produce crops/food for their state thereby provide for the nation at large either by involving this N- Power Volunteers or NYSC. By so doing idleness, poverty and unemployment will be alleviated which will possibly lead to sustainable development for the future generation.

    2. Skill Acquisition:
My people do this a lot (Igbos), but gone are the days when you serve your master for 7 years and expect him to set you free without raising issues. I keep saying this, everybody cannot go to school, everybody cannot be working in the office/ banks as we all want, oK let's assume we all have a white collar job!!! Who will be selling tomatoes, rice, chairs, vegetables etc in the market? So government should please introduce a program where people can acquire hand work/ skills like tailoring, Saloons, electrician, catering etc and add to their qualifications, which will not only alleviate poverty but also create employment. Thus, I know of (illiterate) business men/women who employ graduate, master and PhD holders to work for them. Furthermore, lets us as youths/individuals stop this mentality of I am a graduate,so I have to secure a white collar job. Why not create the job? Why not be the employer and not the employee?

    3. Bad Governance

This is a major issue that needs serious attention because we can keep making thousands of possible suggestions and even providing feasible solutions, but if our leaders lack the following:
    A. Accountability
    B. Confidence
    C. Credibility
    D. Diligence
    E. Trustworthiness
Then am sorry to say we are just dreaming which is why I feel the country is calling for restructuring. The saying that youth are the leaders of tomorrow is obviously not true.

I want to use this opportunity to thank Nicareer Development for this platform to express my suggestions as a youth ambassador (amakaagu5@gmail.com).
Please friends would appreciate your likes, comments, critics and please share!!!

    Thank you

  29. Self employment; Youth should be encouraged to learn a hand work wither educated or not, this will help them to be self reliant and as well employers of labour. The need for agriculture should also be encouraged, this can be down by making provisions for land, capital, fertilizer, and other farm implements that can help increase productivity. These will help reduce the rate of unemployment and poverty in Nigeria.
